  • What Vitamin Company Should I Purchase From?

My doctor recommended I take some vitamins for general health. What are some top vitamin companies I should look at? What do I look for?
I purchased a vitamin D supplement from Thorne Research. It’s vegetarian capsules and hypo-allergenic. Made without preservatives. Does that sound good?
    Thanks for any input!

  • Getting To Medical School With 1 Bad Grade?

I want to get into medical school after university. However, I’m struggling in my Biology class and it seems like i’ll get a D in that class. I’m planning to withdraw it, but the dean of office wouldn’t let me because they want a extenuating circumstances. So, i’m planning to retake the class and hopefully will score better next time. Do you know if getting to medical school would be impossible for me with that D in my record even I did Grade Replacement because I know medical school will not care about the grade replacement much?

What med schools, including Johns Hopkins, recommend in your situation is this:
      - Retake the bio class, and get an A
      - Take at least one additional upper division bio class, and ace it.
The one additional class will help to balance out the retake of the first bio class.
Please get a tutor when you retake this class. You need to do very, very well in this class on the retake, but you don’t have to struggle through it yourself. You absolutely can get a tutor.
You need to do a few things re: your schoolwork, if med school is your goal. I want you to keep these things in mind:
      1) Keep your overall GPA as high above a 3.4 as possible – ideally over a 3.6, and
      2) Keep your science GPA – especially your med school pre-req GPA – in the 3.5+ range.
      3) Do not retake many classes, or take many Ws. You’ve already spent one “retake”. You can’t afford many of those, especially in your med school pre-reqs. Be careful. Get a tutor as soon as you start struggling.
If you continue to do poorly in your classes, especially your med school pre-reqs, then consider a backup plan.
But this one poor grade won’t hold you back from med school, if you do as I suggest re: the retake, and if you get good grades from this point on.

    • Bob 11:48 pm on February 8, 2010 Permalink

What other choice do you have. Try to improve the grade to a C- or better, if you can. If you re-take the class, make sure you get a B or better. Biology is a really important subject if you want to be a doctor.

  • What Is The Difference Between Dental Plan And Dental Insurance?

I would like to know what is the difference between Dental plan and dental insurance? Which one would you get? which one would cover most of the costs?

    • Heavy Metal Fonts 6:09 am on February 9, 2010 Permalink

healthquotes.awardspace.info – here is my health insurance plan. As I remember they can provide such a service.

    • Colin L 6:58 am on February 9, 2010 Permalink

There is a big difference. Dental insurance is a basic insurance where you pay a monthly premium then when you visit the dentist you make a small payment and the insurance takes care of the balance.
A dental plan doesn’t pay any bills but instead gives you big discounts off the cost of care, sometimes 80%. There are several advantages to a dental plan. 1 A dental insurance can run a family of 4 over $100 a month where a dental plan usually less than $20. 2. Dental insurance puts a limit on the annual benefit where a dental plan does not. 3. Dental plans include things like braces & cosmetic dentistry where a dental insurance wont. 4. A dental plan has no waiting period and includes ongoing conditions.

you need to compare what they both pay for routine work. Most dental plans may include insurance or may simply be an agreed to fee schedule that you will pay for the work you have done. In this case they do not pay anything to the doc you do.
People often confuse the two and the terms because dental insurance is not like health insurance. Most dental insurance is really a preventive benefit, more like eye care insurance that medical insurance

There is also a video that explains the differences. From root canals, xrays, cleanings..etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. good luck and hope this helps.

I would like to find the best available information
that I can about various natural and herbal supplements, ie: alternative medicines; health
supplements and their uses. I currently take
prescription meds for depression and anxiety,
which I have serious reservations about. Where
can I find information, not from a herbal supplements sales site. Researched information
that is not in the business of making money from the sales of the supplements. Thank you.

Go speak with a herbalist. It will probably cost you, but at least you can be sure the information you’re getting is accurate and not someones sum up of some article they found on the Internet. They can also direct you with dosages and possible causes of the depression and anxiety, which many times can be reduced or eliminated with changes to the diet.

    • Heather 9:01 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

It’s impossible to find unbiased info, really. The best you can do is to go through as much information as possible from both sides, taking into account their agenda and sources. Be sure to focus mainly on peer-review research journals, since these have rigorous standards to ensure that verifiable, reasonable material is published.

You can buy a copy of Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Balch and Balch, MD for about $25, which is extremely cheap in the scope of things. Certainly it’s cheaper than an appointment with an orthomolecular MD, which path you might want to follow as well. Regarding anxiety and panic attacks: First things to do is make sure you’ve removed ALL caffeine and sugar sources from your diet, including coffee, soda, chocolate, teas (including yerba mate and even green tea for awhile), and are eating enough protein EARLY in the day, like from breakfast onwards. Believe it or not, vegetarianism and even worse, veganism, can really aggravate anxiety, depression and hypoglycaemia symptoms. It’s even worse if candida overgrowth is at the root of all your symptoms. Some folks are EXTREMELY caffeine and sugar sensitive and really don’t know this until they’re off the offending foods for awhile. Also add lots of lemon and chlorophyll to your diet. (Try using Kyogreen or other chlorophyll supplement, like liquid alfalfa (Alfalco) as this will deeply nourish your body, and cool your liver, which can be a huge cause of psychiatric symptoms such as you describe. )Try drinking chamomile or linden (tilia) teas. Other herbs to look at would include hops, passionflower, valerian, oatstraw, blue vervain, and many others. You could try these as tinctures or infusions (teas). For some folks teas as simple as Sleepytime (Celestial Seasonings) or Dream Time (Bigelow), before bedtime, will do the trick, and apple juice, lemonade and chamomile tea all mixed together and served w/ ice and mint is a DELICIOUS summer drink. Added ginger ale is nice, too. Try out some Bach Flower Rescue Remedy. Add it to every bottle of water you drink, and sip on it all day. I find it really takes the edge off anxiety and it works w/ my kids and pets, as well. Herbalgram is an excellent publication out of Austin, TX, for all your research needs. Consult Rosemary Gladstar, Kathi Keville, Susun Weed, Candace Cantin-Packard, Michael Moore, Michael Tierra, Christopher Hobbs, Earl Mindell, Balch and Balch (Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Prescription for Herbal Healing). These are ALL very famous people in the US herbal community. There are many others as well, and there’s a HOST of European (especially English, Scotch and Irish) and Asian folks to read up on, too.

  • What Is The Difference Between A Medical Coding Specialist And A Medical Coding Prefessional?

Which certification should I go with and why? Would appreciate any info from someone that has one of these certifications and did it help you to get hired where you could get some medical coding experience.

    • Poof 3:37 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

There is no difference, and I also agree with the poster above me, It is very difficult to get a coding job. Employers require experience. It took me 2.5 years working as a medical receptionist doing minimal coding to finally move up to a full time coding position at a hospital. As far as outsourcing, that isn’t supposed to be a huge problem, due to HIPPA laws, some ompanies won’t want to outsource the patient record. But then again, you never know for sure.

    • jannsody 5:43 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

As far as I know, there is no regular “medical coding” profession. This type of job falls under health records technician training or the health records administrator position. You will need to take training to become either a records administrator, or a records technician. Also with a lot of hospital jobs, or with a lot of jobs in general within this field, they require that you’re registered with their college, or with their association in order to be able to work in the field. With the registration, I think that you need to have so many hours before you will even be able to apply for registration, so hence, that is why a lot of hospitals, and other organizations need you to have experience in the field.

    • mtwaites 10:44 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

I’m not sure that there is a difference among the two, however, there actually aren’t supposed to be too many jobs for the medical coder (or medical biller or med assistant) despite what those private $$ tech schools say. Most coders need a couple years experience doing coding tasks and have completed an accredited program to possibly get a job. (With medical billing, a lot of companies are outsourcing to Asia/India which is what happened to my cousin who was laid off from her med billing job of five years.)
If still interested in med coding, please only consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as it’s accredited within industry.

  • How Is Solarbeam Affected By Power Herb In The Rain?

In pokemon solar beam normally charges for one turn, but with a rain battle condition it takes two turns to charge, will power herb still let you use solar beam instantly or will it reduce charges back to one?

    • Best Smartphone Software 4:37 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

It seems like Rain doesn’t make Solar Beam charge longer, just makes it half as strong.
So a Power Herb will still make you not having to worry about a charge-up.
      Edit:
Okay, conflicting page with the Weather Conditions page, but there is someone mentioning no additional wait in the discussion area… so.. I don’t know, but considering there are 2 pages for no additional charge, I’m accepting that more than a 2-turn charge.
However, a Power Herb makes it so you by-pass the charge phase, so you still shouldn’t have to worry about charging-up with SolarBeam.

    • DarkLugi 7:05 am on February 8, 2010 Permalink

I think it will reduce the charging by one turn. You do know that if you use Sunny Day you can instantly use Solarbeam without charging.

  • What Does Vitamin C Do For The Digestion?

I realize its an acid(ascorbic acid), but what exactly does it do in the stomach if you take a large dose? I realize a large enough dose will cause diarrhea, but below this dose, what does vitamin C do? Does it improve digestion? Does it block anything? Thanks.

    • ahmad h 1:27 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink

Well, vitamin C is an antioxidant. in the stomach , it will reduce ferric (non-absorbable iron) to ferrous(absorbable iron) . by this way , the body gets its iron requirements. as an acid , it will help in enzyme activation . its excess will cause Hypervitaminosis C , then the body will be in a state of acidosis if this continues.

  • How Much Do You Think A Dental Assistant In Missouri Makes Hourly?

I am studying to become a dental assistant. I want to know what I’ll most likely be making. We have about 5 dentist offices in the town I live.

    • therlot 3:23 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink

      Hi,
The best way is to go to http://www.salary.com and type in dental assistant under job title and your zip code below that. The next page will show a list, and number 1 is the one you want that says dental assistant. Under that click on “base salary range” that is after the words ‘for you’. It will take you to a page that shows the low, median and high wage range for your area.
Good luck, my wife is studying the same thing right now.

Is it possible I could be allergic to multi vitamins? All it takes is 1 vitamin and i have my skin breakout especially my forehead, and when I dont take any i eventually get better again. Does this make any sense, is there something in the vitamin like iron or something thats causing this? What could I do to get tested?

    • vitaminh 12:39 am on February 6, 2010 Permalink

Yes. Very rarely does a patient have a reaction to the vitamin itself. Usually it is due to an excipient (additive) that is in the vitamin. You may want to contact the distributor and verify that the vitamin is “excipient free” unless it expressly states that on the container. For further info you may contact me at vitaminherbalconsultant@yahoo.com or via phone at (716) 804-1073. Craig Cauley, CPhT.

  • Is It Good To Take Omega3 Fatty Acd Supplements Prophilactically As I Am A Vegetarian.?

In my daily intake of food, I do not find omega3 fatty acids naturally as I am a vegetarian.I came to know they don’t make fats deposit in blood vessels. So, prophilactically, is it advisable to take supplements daily? Few natural foods like walnuts, flax seed and linseed oil are not in my daily food. I also take aspirin 0.75mg daily. Please advise.

    • Biljana P 2:16 am on February 6, 2010 Permalink

Its a very good idea, and they arent coming from fish, they just can be find in a fish TOO, but not only there! I learned a lot about omega3 and omega6 on my studies, and I am taking it. You can buy it in any pharmacy.

There are vegan omega 3 supplements available. Hemp seed also has omega 3 fatty acids. I have found a line of flax-based cereals, and I’m trying to get in the habit of eating them for my health.

You could always just have flaxseed oil. I put it in smoothies or on muesli. Can also be found in supplement pill form.

Yes, Take 1000 mgs up to 3 times a day. Also, a handful of walnuts will help your cardiovascular health.
Look up the site below. I’ve found good stuff on cardio health for vegetarians and some meal plans too.

    • Healthy Vegetarian 1:34 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink

I face the same problem you do with omega 3. The problem with vegetarian diet causes many people to avoid the omega 3 they need. I take Omega 3 because it is essential to brain function. Our brains are over 98% fat. I make this concession to my diet because I need the Omega 3 to remain brain and heart healthy.

    • Wandusa 2:41 am on February 7, 2010 Permalink

Supplements would be better taken this way than using the whole fish. You have to make sure the fins are pointing the correct way or damage can occur.
