vitamin c is ascorbic acid, a water soluable substance (i.e. when you eat too more of it than your body needs you’ll just pee it out). your body needs it to build connective tissue, protect genes from oxidation, absorb iron in the small intestine and keep your muscles going. it can also help with motion sickness and the common cold. if you get too little of it you’ll get bleeding gums, loose teeth, fatigue, low immunity, skin problems, impaired wound healing, inflammations of the joints, wasting muscles and fever. too much of it (more than five grams a day, nearly impossible to achieve unless you make a serious effort) will give you a very sore tummy and diarrhoea.
vitamin b is actually a whole complex of vitamins that your body needs to build coenzyms. vitamin b1 (thiamine) is necessary to keep your nervous system going. vitamin b2 is a complex of four different chemicals that your body needs to maintain itself. vitamin b6 is necessary for your body’s amino acid metabolism. vitamin b9 is folic acid that your body needs to keep the cardio vascular system healthy, and pregnant women are adviced to take it to prevent neural tube defects in the baby. vitamin b12 is needed to make healthy red blood cells.
