I was curious what supplements would be safe to take to try to improve my performace without “cheating” (steriods, etc.). I’m talking about maybe protein drinks and such. Things that will help my legs get stronger because I’am a distance runner but will still keep me slim. I want to do the best I possibly can in my high school career so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

What Supplements Are Safe For A High School Cross Country/track Runner To Use?

Seems like high school is a bit early to turn to most supplements. You also don’t want to bulk up too much. I would just make sure you hit the iron nice and hard on leg day and eat enough protein. If you need to add more, use whey protein shakes before and after workouts. Casein is good before going to sleep. I would recommend focusing on your running during the season and cranking up the weights during off season. That way you can be sure you’re eating enough to build the extra muscle without slowing down your times. Creatine will increase your strength in the gym to help weight gain, but you’re a runner not a football player, right? Plus you don’t want the water retention. Testosterone boosters also retain water, not to mention screw up your hormones, especially dangerous at your age.
Don’t forget to stretch after lifting weights. Stronger hammies can lead to a shortened stride.

YOU ARE A DISTANCE RUNNER!!!
big muscles will only slow you down. http://media.charlotteobserver.com/smedi…
see, the fastest 3000m runners out there are not very bulky.
if you must gain SOME muscle when lifting, take creatine protien powder
