What Challenges Could Arise From Standardizing Employee Selection Programs In A Multinational Organization?

1. Standardization could easily lead to innappropriate selection criteria in countries that are very different from the U.S. Cultural differences might also make some requirements seem silly or excessive.
2. Implementation of any cross-organizaitonal standards is always difficult because it requires local managers to relinquish authority that they’ve been allowed to exercise before. This can affect their satisfaction with the job, and could even give them a sense that the company is being overly controlling.
3. This seems pretty different from programs that encourage diversity. Reaching out to communities to fill a more diverse workforce across race, gender, or sexual orientation usually has nothing to do with meeting standards — it’s more of a recruiting and advertising effort. If your company engages in a more aggressive affirmative action program, there may be similarities, but I don’t have much experience with selectively lowering standards to create diversity.
