I founded an organization of volunteers that helps horses in Mexico. We are receiving donations from the US and Europe, but are they are very minimal. To try and receive more donations, I would like to register our organization as a non-profit in the US. I am an American citizen but the work I am doing is currently in Mexico. Can I register a non-profit organization in the US even if the work is only in Mexico?

The Heifer organization works primarily in other countries yet they are a nonprofit organization.
I suggest looking into some classes as to how to make a nonprofit business last–our local community colleges offers a LOT of insight to make it work.
