I submitted my resume on Craig’s List many times – and often when I apply to a Office Assistant or Office Manager position, I receive an email back explaining the company and how my job would be to receive their US checks and to take them to my bank or a cash checking place and keep a percentage and send the rest of the funds to them- has anyone ever gone through with this and is it a scam? I’ve never responded, thinking it wrong in some way.

It’s a scam. What it is, is that they send you fake checks… really good fake checks and the bank can’t even catch it right away. You cash the check and send them most of the money, but when the bank finds out it’s you not the crooks that take to fall. I’ve found it’s just best to stay away from craigslist when it come to finding jobs they are all scams. Try a legit service like monster instead. If you look up a job posting and the company won’t give you their name right in the posting it’s most likely a scam

That is a HUGE scam to get you to give out your bank information and when they get it they withdraw all of your money from your account. Please don’t fall for that crap many have been ripped off by people like that.

its most likely a scam and if you are worried its a scam you should report it to the police and then they’ll most likely hand your case to a government agency like the FBI.

It’s a scam. You cash the checks and send them a legit check or money order…then the check you cashed later is rejected because it’s fraudulent…you are out money and you could get in trouble with the law.

It’s a SCAM!!
The checks would look perfectly real but be fake. They would bounce but not until you have sent the money out of country making you responsible for the bounced check.

Hi,
This is a very simple and VERY damaging scam.
Firstly, remember YOU are responsible for your bank account [if you decide to put fake checks in your account, YOU must pay the price]
There are 3 main characters in this scam:
YOU and your bank account
THE COMPANY using an invented name or abusing the name of a real company
THE CUSTOMER/CLIENT.
The company contacts you and asks you to work for them. They tell you “this is 200% legal”, “we do not want your bank info”, “this wont hurt a bit, here…have some candy” etc
Your “job” is to receive payments from customers/clients in your country and “process” them
This means the,the money clears in your account and you send the cash to the company minus your 10/15% commission.
What actually happens:
The “customers/clients” sends you a fake check or transfers money into your account online from a hacked bank account.
You put the check in your bank and wait 7 to 10 days for it to “CLEAR” [This a very misguiding word]
You use a check cashing service [showing your ID in case the police ever want to visit]
Some times the checks are very, very authentic looking. It can take the bank several months to realise its fake.
You withdraw the 90% of the cash and send it to the “company” by some anonymous money transfer service like Moneygram or Western Union.
Another “customer” [same scammer, different email address] sends another check and you repeat the process until….
Your bank freezes all your accounts and debits your accounts.Dont worry if your accounts are empty they will now have a minus balance and you must pay the bank back.
You bank will be a bit confused as to why you are abusing the service they offer and probably call the police.
A lot of people have gone to jail trying to explain a story they dont know to police who do not understand!
My question for you is….what have fake personal checks, fake company checks, fake bank drafts, fake money orders, fake travellers checks and fake dollar bills have in common
